Machine translation, rule-based translation, statistical machine translationAbstract
This article analyses the principal theoretical and technological approaches to machine translation, in particular the linguistic and computational characteristics of rule-based, statistical, and example-based machine translation systems. Structural differences between the source and target languages, the transformation of syntactic representations, the use of bilingual parallel corpora, and the alignment of translation units are examined scientifically. Methodological problems related to developing translation models for agglutinative and low-resource languages, formulating linguistic rules, segmenting corpus units, and aligning them are also considered.
